Journalists have a very important role in American society. Journalists hold on their shoulders the weight of the truth, as well as the responsibility to report that truth. Journalists are here to inform the public, and in doing so to hold those in power accountable. Those who have the most power are therefore more likely to abuse that power, and believe that they are above the law. It is the job of the journalist to hold those accountable, to seek the truth, and to report that truth.
The journalist also has a role in informing the public. In times of crisis, the number one rule journalists must follow is to keep the public informed on the stories that they care about the most.
